Colour, shape, tooth damage and missing teeth are different problems. Whitening changes the colour of natural teeth; it does not whiten existing crowns, veneers or fillings. A veneer covers the front surface of a tooth, while a crown covers more of the tooth. An implant replaces a missing tooth root. These options are not interchangeable simply because they can change a smile.
Ask what will happen to your natural teeth
Before agreeing to veneers or crowns, ask which teeth need treatment, why each tooth is included and how much preparation is proposed. Veneer treatment can involve irreversible enamel removal. Discuss less invasive alternatives where appropriate, the effect of existing restorations and what replacement or repair could involve later. A photograph of a desired smile is a starting point, not a treatment prescription.
The fitting appointment is a decision point
Discuss shade, shape, speech and bite before final placement. Ask how a temporary restoration or preview is used and what changes are possible at that stage.
